Raising My Children in Light and Truth

As I sit here late at night, my thoughts wandered to our Relief Society lesson we had on Sunday. It was such a great lesson. At least the little bit I caught with my cranky baby girl. :)
Good thing she's so cute right?

Anyways! This last weeks lesson was all about raising our children in light and truth. (You can read the lesson here: https://www.lds.org/manual/teachings-of-presidents-of-the-church-joseph-fielding-smith/chapter-16-bringing-up-children-in-light-and-truth?lang=eng One section of the lesson say "Parents should do all they can to help their children understand and live the gospel of Jesus Christ." This is a topic I sometimes struggle with! I will admit we never have family home evening. Nathan get's home late, and by the time I am done with our day I don't feel like planning anything. Though I realize those are just excuses and I really should make it a priority! We just started reading family scriptures and doing family prayer. Tonight we finished 1st Nephi! Woo Hoo!! Hudson is loving it! Rochelle is usually asleep by this time but we do make sure to pray with her every night. But we never prayer for meals, or say morning prayers... yep more things to work on! But one thing I have started to make a priority is taking Hudson to see the temple whenever we are next to one. He loves to drive around the temple and sing "I Love to see the Temple." Which he calls the temple song. Then we talk about Angel Moroni, or what happens in the temple. Like how we were sealed as a family for all eternity. Before we leave we always say a prayer of safety and gratitude. It has become on of his favorite things to do! In the last two weeks we have seen the Rexburg, Idaho Falls, and Logan temple. All of which he was ecstatic for! He is adorable and stares at them in aw while talking about how pretty they are. Next weekend we will have the amazing opportunity to take Hudson and Rochelle to the Ogden Temple Open House. Where we will be able to take a tour of the inside of the temple. I am so excited to teach him more about what goes on in the temple and what he can do to one day enter into the temple again. So yes I struggle with most aspects of teaching my children of the gospel, but I am doing one thing right I think, and that is instilling a love of the temple into my children. So hopefully one day they can take their future spouse into the temple and be sealed to their family for time and all eternity. In the mean time I am going to keep working on family home evening, and getting better about making sure we make it to all of our church meetings. (Yep we struggle there too! haha 2 young toddlers makes it very challenging at times!) One day we will get there. In the process we will just keep trying!

Here is another article I just saw on the church homepage. I think it fits for tonight's post! :)

I will admit I didn't read the whole thing. I am getting tired. But I definitely will tomorrow. I hope this gives encouragement to others like me. What is important is that we keep trying to do better and follow the commandments. We do not have to be "perfect." We just have to keep trying.
